Raised by Eagles
Raised By Eagles’ entrance onto Melbourne’s musical landscape in July 2013 immediately garnered the attention of Americana music aficionados across the country, their debut release scoring the band a nomination at the Age Music Victoria Awards that year for ‘Best Country Album’. Since then, continually raw and captivating performances have cemented Raised By Eagles’ reputation as one of Melbourne’s most sought after live acts. They released their widely acclaimed follow-up LP Diamonds In the Bloodstream in May 2015 which bagged a slew of award nominations and went on to win ‘Best Country Album’ and ‘Best Emerging Artist’ at the Age Music Victoria Awards. It also scored them an invitation to perform at the prestigious Americana Music Festival in Nashville Tennessee, where they delivered a stellar run of international shows before returning home to begin 2016. After a big year on the Australian festival circuit the band signed on with ABC Music and took a break to start writing and recording their third album, I Must Be Somewhere. Released in May 2017, it scored a hasty four stars in Rolling Stone Australia and won them ‘Best Country Album’ again, at the Age Music Victoria Awards 2017. See Raised By Eagles live and it’s as if they draw breath together… evocative, old-soul Americana coming out of men surely not old enough to play it with such integrity, sincerity and presence but they do. Songs that, like all great music, stands tall and timeless, built on a foundation of rock solid songwriting, musicianship, a good dose of mongrel and something that simply can’t be taught – soul.
“A guitar-slinging chanteuse with a voice that could lay the Southern Ocean down to rest.”
‘Secrets’ gently unwraps Laura’s beautiful gift as a songwriter. She writes whimsical songs with intriguing intimacy, full of love and purpose. With hints of youthful wisdom Laura’s song writing is matched with a stunning clarity and tone to create a beautiful soundscape.
Laura’s newest studio album ‘Secrets’ infinitely defines her stunning sound. Her fourth studio recording, it demonstrates a deviation from the somewhat laid back demeanour of her earlier albums Guava Tree and Blue Skiesand greatly compliments her best selling solo release Powdered Sunshinefrom 2014. The songs here are emotionally raw, painfully honest and yet threaded with a singular bright positivity… swung from the heartfelt letter that didn’t get through, to ballads of stargazing, shoe-gazing and road-tripping.
After touring nationally and with new found pride in her sense of place, Laura’s home on the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula helps define her impeccable indie folk sound.
