Shane Nicholson

We’ve been working on this one for months and are SO pleased to be able to announce that Shane Nicholson will perform here on Saturday 4 May 2019!

From his early days with Brisbane’s Pretty Violet Stain to his current status as Australia’s leading proponent of Alternative Country / Americana, Shane Nicholson has become a steady and constant figure in the Australian music industry.

He has won 3 ARIA awards – for his solo album Hell Breaks Loose in 2015 and his hugely successful collaborations with Kasey Chambers Rattlin’ Bones and Wreck and Ruin, 10 Golden Guitar Awards – including 2018 Male Artist Of The Year – and an APRA award.

Shane is widely regarded as a major player in the Alternative Country field in Australia and the USA, having been nominated multiple times at the Americana Music Awards in Nashville. His latest offering, the highly acclaimed  “Love And Blood” was released in July 2017 on Lost Highway / UMA.

Nicholson’s is a uniquely compelling voice in Australian songwriting – it lives and breathes in the songsmith’s singular melodies, crooked humour, and short, pithy lines gently delivered Rolling Stone Magazine

One of the country’s finest songwriters. Rhythms Magazine

(Hell Breaks Loose is) my current favourite album…he paints me pictures, he sets the scenes, and he takes me to special places in my imagination.” Russell Morris

I have real admiration for Shane Nicholson’s musical sensibilities. I felt honored to have a hand in the making of  “One Big Mess.”  Rodney Crowell

Shane Nicholson doesn’t fool me with his tough guy exterior and his refusal to smile in photographs, the guy is a marshmallow, a poet, a genius.  Beccy Cole

Kelly Menhennett

Daughter to a 3rd generation grape growing father and cabaret singing mother, Kelly Menhennett’s upbringing in SA’s Riverland region consisted of much song, wine and wide open space. After years working in the wine industry as a red winemaker, the healthy dose of soul, blues, country, folk and rock and roll music that infused her blood as a child eventually led her to the stage with a soulful, gritty voice that has since been compared to a mix of Erma Franklin and Etta James.

Since then the Americana inspired singer songwriter has gone on to win the national Telstra Road To Discovery award for her songwriting, independently released 2 full length albums and performed at iconic national and international festivals both solo and with her band. Most recently Kelly was the recipient of the inaugural “Ryan Freeman Live Music Award” at the 2015 SA Music awards and won the 2015 ARBA Best Roots album with her latest release, Small Dreams.

In late 2016 Kelly was invited to travel to the USA where she helped complete some unfinished works by the legendary gospel songwriter, Albert E. Brumley, famous for his classic, “I’ll Fly Away”. In late 2010, Kelly released her debut album “World Of Mine”, receiving great response by fans and media and named one of the top 10 albums for 2011 by Rhythms magazine’s Sue Barrett. Kelly’s 2nd and most recent album, “Small Dreams”, was recorded live over 3 days at Mr Lemons Studio in Nashville with producer Neilson Hubbard and an all-star band including the likes of Carl Broemel (My Morning Jacket) and Kim Richey. In contrast to her first album, Small Dreams is a little darker, a little dirtier and focuses more on her love of Americana music, which has inspired her for a lifetime. Also well received by fans and media, Small Dreams was named a top 3 release by Rhythms Magazine.

Touring both solo and with her band has seen her developing a reputation around the country as a unique and charismatic performer. She has been invited to support some great Austrialian and International musical acts (Archie Roach, Don Walker, Steve Poltz, Tex Perkins, Richard Clapton, Anne McCue and Busby Marou to name a few), shared the stage with her idol, Paul Kelly, in Nashville and graced the stages of some of Australia’s best venues and festivals such as the Woodford Folk Festival, WOMADelaide, Queenscliff Music Festival, Adelaide Guitar Festival and Tamworth Country Music Festival, as well as the Americana Festival in Nashville.

Live reviews:

“Kelly Menhennett came on stage next and immediately silenced the room with her powerful vocals. Menhennett was solely joined by her keys player and delivered a set filled with folk, roots, alternative country and a hint of jazz. Menhennett has been kicking around for a few years now, but she is probably one of the best singer-songwriters in Adelaide. Her incredible set was filled with quiet and loud moments and inspired the audience members to dance in their seats.” Kate Sansome – ThisIsRadelaide.com.au

“It was obvious from the start that Kelly was able to draw the crowd in, immediately connect withthem and then take them on a sultry, earthy, rustic journey through her amazing song collection.” Chris Murch – TheMusic.com.au

“Kelly Menhennett has a voice that is equal parts force, fury and vibrato. Menhennett’s music had an exceptional blend of soul and blues, which conjured up thoughts of Sharon Jones and Ella Fitzgerald.” Bridget Fahey – YewthMag.com
