Lyn Bowtell and special guest Kelly Brouhaha

September 17, 2022 @ 5:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Lyn Bowtell

Stunning, heartfelt vocals, beautifully-crafted songs and world-class performances, there are few female voices in Australia to rival the class and style of Lyn Bowtell. An innovative songwriter, Lyn defies easy classification with influences reaching from pure country to blues, jazz and pop, Lyn has her own distinctive voice and musical identity.

Lyn’s musical journey began in the Country Music Clubs of the Darling Downs and has led her to stages all over Australia and around the world. Lyn first came to prominence as songwriter and singer for multi-award- winning country pop trio Bella. Since then she has released critically acclaimed albums ‘Secret Songs’ in 2012, ‘Heart Of Sorrow’ in 2014 and EP ‘Calling You in 2017’, all brimming with the singer’s soulful vocals, highlighting the sublime voice that turned heads and four red chairs on national television in Channel Nine’s Season 6 of The Voice Australia.

Lyn Bowtell’s latest Album ‘Wiser’, produced by Shane Nicholson, will be released in May 2022.

Lyn is a nine -time Golden Guitar winner, Toyota Star Maker winner, MO award winner, and Artistic Director of the CMAA Academy of Country Music.

Kelly Brouhaha

“She’s known for having an extraordinarily rare voice” – CLARE BOWDITCH

Shortlisted for the Americana Music Prize in 2018, Kelly Brouhaha’s brand of americana soul is as real as it gets. The South Australian songwriter & multi-instrumentalist spends most of the year around a campfire, travelling in her 1992 Toyota Hiace Van called “Pamela Vanderson”.

Her debut self titled album tells the story after leaving her marriage and mortgage behind in the pursuit of happiness. The single of the same name, co-written with Aleyce Simmonds is a big, ballsy, freedom-esque blues which captures the heart of the Australian landscape and the lure of off-grid living.

Choosing to pursue the road less travelled after learning of her father’s althzeimers diagnosis – this album captures heartbreak and grief in a way that leaves you breathless. A diverse first offering from an artist you absolutely need to hear.

You cannot put her unique style into a box.
From big blues, to soulful country, it is real and raw and vulnerable.

Emerging Artists Scholarship Winners:

This year we offered an Emerging Artist Scholarship to six applicants. In addition to music business mentorship with artist Kelly Brouhaha, sound tips from engineer John Simpson and venue tips from owner Mike Roberts, scholarship winners get to perform a couple of songs at the start of a show. We are really looking forward to hearing Courteney Hooper kick off this magic night at The Barn at Wombat Flat!

Courteney Hooper

Rising Adelaide based alt-folk singer/composer/multi-instrumentalist Courteney Hooper (she/they) interweaves vibrant whimsical escapism with gentle melancholic contemplation.

Born into a family of musicians in the Clare Valley Wine Region, Courteney has been immersed in a world of harmony since before she can remember, developing an unwavering love for piano and later, a passion for composition and songwriting.

In 2019, an existential spiral lead her to attend an open mic alone at 11pm with an audience of approximately three people.
Since then, she has been performing professionally across Adelaide and wider SA, making appearances at The Gov, The Cranker, The Wheaty, The Jade and many more local and surrounding venues as both a cover and original artist.
In 2022 she was accepted into the Adelaide Conservatorium of Music and is studying a Bachelor of Jazz Vocal Performance.
Inspired by unique vocal-stylists and composers such as Kate Bush, Regina Spektor, Joni Mitchell and Sarah Vaughan, her sound intertwines ethereal melodies and piano-centricity with sprinklings of classical music and textural rhythms of contemporary jazz.
Courteney’s lyrical compositions and enticing voice endeavour to invite the audience into an escapist realm of eccentricity.

The Barn at Wombat Flat is a NO BYO FOOD or DRINK event please! We will have a range of drinks from Ricca Terra Vintners plus beer, cider, soft drinks, hot drinks. We have booked the amazing Two Fat Blokes  Pizza van! Baked goods from the Eudunda Bakery.

While you’re doing your pre-show eating and drinking you’ll be entertained around the fires by one of last year’s Emerging Artist Scholarship Winners, Gemma Tiller!
